What is Citation?

By James Ball

"What is citation and referencing and why is it essential to use in your work?"

Citation and referencing is essential in your work because if you don’t do it, and it happens to resemble another person work, even if it is coincidental, you will more likely that not get done for plagiarism. On the plus side however citation and referencing is also a good thing, for it gives you a sauce of information with which to back up your claims in an argument or assessment piece.

Example

From a web page

Cornell University Library (2011) APA citation is the style of citation that we use here at SAE Institute. APA citation style refers to the rules and conventions established by the American Psychological Association for documenting sources used in a research paper. APA style requires both in-text citations and a reference list. A good way I have come to think of this is the in text citation is a link/shortcut to the larger citation in the reference list and vice versa.

From a Video

Octopimp (2012) OH GOD! Why did I not listen to the video and get myself trapped in this 400,000 plus word rabbit hole that is Homestuck!
